About IPAC

Mission

With our partners, we are committed to promoting patient safety through quality care, education, research, and surveillance in infection prevention and control.

What Does Infection Prevention and Control Do?

The goal of the Vancouver Coastal Health Infection Control Program is to reduce the spread of health-care related infections within the facilities across the region.  The focus of all Infection Prevention and Control efforts is to prevent the transmission of disease from patient to patient, patient to healthcare worker, and healthcare worker to patient.

Prevention of infection is achieved through risk identification, development of prevention strategies, surveillance and implementation of infection prevention and control practices, investigation of potential outbreaks, education, policy and procedure development, interactive communication and collaboration with all departments.  Successful strategies often require strong working partnerships and the Infection Control Team participates on many inter-disciplinary projects that promote and enhance patient safety.

VCH is accredited by Accreditation Canada.  Click here to review the Accrediation Canada Infection Prevention and Control Standards  that we adhere to and promote in all of our facilities.
