The “Infection Prevention and Control Practices for Direct Clinical Care
Providers” course teaches the basic principles of infection control within the
healthcare system, including hand hygiene, sharps management, blood and body
fluid exposure and clean-up, proper use of personal protective equipment, and
additional precautions. This course also focuses on the importance of the Point
of Care Risk Assessment and teaches risk assessment techniques to be applied in
a healthcare environment.
This course is appropriate for all health care professionals
working directly with patients. This includes nurses, physiotherapists,
physicians, care aides, laboratory technologists, radiology and ultrasound
technologists, phlebotomists and many other roles.

This provincial training course outlines the highest level of precautions
required to respond safely to rare and emerging pathogens. By completing the “Infection Control Precautions for Rare or Emerging Pathogens”
you will be able to identify the various requirements when caring for patients
with rare or emerging pathogens. This includes designated personal protective
equipment, special donning and doffing procedures, biocontainment protocols and
more. This module is meant to be the first step in preparedness, to be followed
by hands-on practice in each worksite using simulations.
